How many events may a student enter? Students may enter up to a total of two combined events (individual or team).
How many students may represent each school in any individual event? Teacher leaders may enter up to two students per school in each individual event
How many teams may a school enter in each team event? Teacher leaders may enter one team for a team event. All team events must have at least two students (and no more than four) per school to qualify.
Can students attend if they are not competing? Yes. Students not competing will be expected to attend the conference sessions and volunteer for one hour. The $35.00 applies to any student coming to the EdRising VA SLC.
Is my parent welcome to watch my competition? There are only three events open to the public, Educators Rising Moment, Creative Lecture (TED Talk), and Public Speaking. Spectators may not record any competition.
Can a student enter an event using what s/he did last year if it is improved? No. A student must use original work from the 2018-2019 school year. Anything used in previous years will result in disqualification.
Why does Virginia require artifacts and presentation resources to be submitted before the event? In order to honor the time of everyone (students, teacher leaders, judges and guests), parts of some events will be prejudged. In other cases, the artifact submitted ahead of time helps the judges to gain a better understanding of the event.
Will internet be available at the SLC? No. Please be sure to have competition materials with you on a USB.
Who can participate in the National Competitive Events? Virginia's first and second place state award recipients in each competition can advance to the national competition.
Will wireless presenters or PowerPoint Remotes be available? No. If you choose to use one, you must bring it to the event with its adapter.
